Our Story

Te Poho-O-Hinemihi Marae is a Maori Reservation pursuant to Section 338 of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act, 1993. It is a Marae Reservation that was set aside as a meeting place for the common use and benefit of Ngati Hinemihi for the conduct of 

  • Whānau / Family,

  • Hapu / Community gatherings 

  • Land meetings

  • Weddings and birthdays

  • Tangihanga and funerals

  • Religious and social gatherings

  • Wānanga and Community Development initiatives

  • Sports Clubs and sporting fixtures 

 
Marae Philosophy

To encourage Tangata Whenua of all ages to develop pride and participation in all aspects of the development of Te Poho-O-Hinemihi Marae. The Marae exists to cater for the social, cultural, spiritual and economic requirements of its beneficiaries in terms of – 

  • The fostering of internal Whanau/Hapu relations

  • The development of relationships with Whānau and Hapu living outside of the district

  • The building of inter Hapu relationships and enhancing the meanings of Whānaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Aroha, Whakapono, Tikanga and Taha Wairua

  • Developing relationships with Government Ministries, Agencies and Departments in the development of Marae, Hapu and Whanau.
